King of United Kingdom

20th January 1936 to 11th December 1936

He caused a constitutional crisis by proposing marriage to an American socialite, Ms. Wallis Simpson, who divorced her first husband and was seeking a divorce from her second husband.

Choosing not to end his relationship with Ms. Simpson, King Edward abdicated for her.

This is the Union Jack Flag that was to be used for his coronation in 1937. All flags and banners were ordered by the monarch to be destroyed.

"Of course I do have a slight advantage over the rest of you. It helps in a pinch to be able to remind your bride that you gave up the throne for her" - King Edward VIII
